Nelson’s Boulder Bank offers a stunningly unique wedding setting with views of Nelson City, the Nelson harbour area and Tasman Bay. A Nelson icon, the Boulder Bank is a natural phenomenon – a ‘sea wall’ - made of large boulders from a now defunct mountain that have been moved to this site by tide action. It stretches for 13km creating a sheltered haven for the port and being the largest natural breakwater in the world is clearly visible from orbiting space-craft. There are only 4 similar banks throughout the world.
The whole of the Boulder Bank is a wildlife refuge for nesting sea birds and also bears a lighthouse, which has been a Nelson landmark for over 160 years. Please see our Lighthouse Wedding for more information about the lighthouse and getting married there.
Access to the boulder bank for weddings is by boat only and various cruise options are available. You may even like to combine your wedding with an overnight stay on one of the yachts listed below.
